It’s a favorite with the Boy Scouts, try it, it will be your favorite too.The Glacier Stainless mess kit combines the gourmet performance you want with the light weight you need, making it a favorite of hikers and backpackers. The mess kit starts with a 1-quart cooking pot and a 7.5-inch frypan that doubles as a lid for the pot.
The kit’s 7.5-inch frypan doubles as a lid for the 1-quart pot. Both cookware items are made of high-grade, 18/8 stainless steel, with a non-reactive surface that’s the perfect complement to cooking with butter, olive oil, or bacon. The stainless pots distribute heat evenly and consistently, and can go from stove to fire to oven while always delivering a perfect sear. With a brilliant, rustproof finish and the strength that only steel can provide, Glacier Stainless is the material of choice for cooking over coals or campfires.
The Glacier Stainless mess kit also includes a 6-inch polypropylene bowl and a 12-ounce polypropylene cup. And to make it easier to lift your cookware, the kit comes with an exclusive DiamondBack Gripper handle that attaches securely to exterior brackets on the pot and frypan. The brackets preserve both the interior and exterior pot finishes while still letting you detach the handle for easy storage.
All the items in the Glacier Stainless mess kit nest together and fit inside the included mesh storage bag. The items pack small, travel light, and withstand a ton of abuse.

About GSI Outdoors
GSI opened its doors in 1985, after a small group of British Columbian siblings made their way down the West Coast to San Diego. Beginning with a few pieces of blue enamelware and a smattering of campfire accessories, GSI Outdoors grew through the years to include full design, manufacturing, sales, and marketing departments, all tasked with developing and marketing an ever-more-innovative line of outdoor cookware, tableware, and accessories. Siblings Don, Ian, and Kathy Scott eventually relocated to Spokane, Washington, where they continue to define innovation through the creation of unique, imaginative, and fun products that reassert their enthusiasm for the outdoors. GSI Outdoors is still a small, privately held company, with no obligation to shareholders, a corporate board, or anyone else aside from its customers and employees.

Ok, but could be better. I would say the other reviews that point out issues with the handle and the fit of the bowl & cup inside the metal pieces is pretty spot on. The two metal pans work just fine for me so I gave it 3 stars since they are the two most important pieces, but all of the complaints are valid. The handle bends when using and has to be bent back. I assume one day it will just snap off, but hasn’t yet. One way around the handle issue is to flip it upside down and use it as more of a hook as long as…
Excellent build quality, but not well engineered With the exception of the handle, this kit has excellent build quality. The two metal pan/plates are excellent, solid, and beautiful. The plastic bowl and cup are fine, but disappointing in their plasticy plasticness. I wish they were also stainless steel. I understood before purchasing the kit that the bowl and cup were not metal, but once you see the pan and plate, you wish that the bowl and cup followed in their awesome metallic splendor.
Exactly what I wanted. I got on Amazon looking for a basic, fairly well put together non-aluminum mess kit that wouldn’t kill my budget as a college student. This set is pretty much everything I wanted.
