An instant cold pack is a device that consists of two bags; one containing water, inside a bag containing ammonium nitrate, calcium ammonium nitrate or urea. When the inner bag of water is broken by squeezing the package, it is allowed to dissolve the solid in an endothermic reaction. This reaction absorbs heat from the surroundings, quickly lowering the pack’s temperature. Instant cold packs are a convenient direct replacement for crushed ice used as first aid on sport injuries, and can be carried as first aid to remote or wilderness areas where ice is unavailable.

Basic bag of scientific ice If you are expecting miracle therapy with this product, then your in the wrong section. It’s a bag that gets cold for a short time. It is meant for short time emergencys and that is what it does. And at a great price.
It does get cold. It does indeed get cold, like an icepack, and it stays cold about 45 minutes. The directions say to fold it top to bottom to pop the inner bag so that the chemical reaction can occur, producing cold. I never could get it to work with top to bottom folding. Instead, if I folded it side to side like the pages of a book, then it worked.
