The Kobun is a lightweight Tanto styled boot knife. It takes its namesake from the Japanese martial, or underworld where the word “Kobun” means “soldier”. It’s a fitting name for a knife like the Kobun, which was effectively designed to be “a good soldier”. In profile it closely resembles our Master Tanto, but it sports a thinner blade, and that supports its main function; to be a light weight boot knife. Like our Tantos, it features the Tanto styled reinforced point. This contrasts sharply with most boot knives on the market today which are notorious for their paper thin points which are easily broken or bent. In contrast, the Kobun’s point is highly resistant to bending or breaking because it is reinforced by the full thickness of the blade’s spine which runs almost to the very tip of the blade. The Kobun, from creative cutlery company Cold Steel, is a Tanto-style boot knife named after the Japanese word for “soldier.” The sleek, lightweight knife has a blade made of Japanese AUS 8A stainless steel, with a reinforced point that’s highly resistant to bending and breakage. The blade’s spine runs nearly to the tip of the blade for added durability, and a checkered, nonslip Kraton handle has minimum bulk with a great deal of grip. Its cross section is designed to be as thin as possible at only a half inch, and contoured to resist turning or shifting in your palm. A Secure-Ex sheath is also included.

Excellent execution Yet another stupefyingly good product from Cold Steel. Extremely light and agile, mine came with a pretty sharp edge but definitely not shaving quality. No worries; a little love from some ceramic followed by some stropping and it was, indeed, a razor. I’m not sure how long that will last but based on its AUS8 material I have no doubt that it’s going to be pretty easy to get back into awesome shape.I’m not going to measure and weight this for you; people have already done it and…
Best $30 knife Iâve ever bought. For the price point ($30-$35), this knife is nothing short of awesome. If it was $50, Iâd call it 4 stars, for $100 Iâd give it 3, but for $30, Iâd give it 6/5 stars if I could. Itâs very light, nimble, and usable. The blade is thin (1/8â), but not thin enough to feel cheap. Itâs not a âJapan levelâ good Cold Steel, but itâs a solid knife. Itâs a Taiwan cold steel, one of their âjunk knivesâ, made of AUS-8 steel, which means itâs about the quality of a SOG or Gerber production knife. I own a…
Sheath clip has been changed. No longer suited to the sheath or the intended use of the knife. The knife is excellent, as is the sheath. VERY disappointed in the sheath clip. All the clips shown by Amazon, Cold Steel and You Tube are for securely locking onto a belt or or the top of pants, because the end of the clip turns in, creating a secure chamber that resists pulling from any direction. The sheath clip I received today is shaped exactly like the clip on my Kershaw and Gerber folders, i.e., the clip bends in with a rounded contact area for grabbing fabric, but then…
