Easy to use prepoured agar plate bacteria growing set. NO pouring your own plates, which is time consuming and potentially dangerous and NO autoclaving. This is an excellent science kit to learn microbiology and great for science fair projects. Each plate is coated with a thick nutrient rich agar, which bacteria, molds, and other fungi love! See increased bacterial/fungal growth compared to other products. The thick agar surface prevents cracking and drying of the plates as seen with other kits. 100% money back guaranteed if you don’t absolutely love your kit.

Kit Contents:

1. 10 pre-poured sterile TS (tryptic soy) nutrient agar plates

2. 10 sterile cotton tipped swabs

3. 1 bottle of sterile saline to be used in experiments

4. 2 transfer pipettes

Basic Instructions:

1. Unopened plates can be stored at room temperature if you use them immediately or refrigerated for long term storage (NOT FROZEN-this will crack the agar).

2. Take out bacterial agar plates and let them warm up to room temperature for about 1 hour.

3. Get a cotton tip swab. Wet the tip with water if you are going to be testing dry areas to pick up more bacteria.

4. Swab different objects (e.g. teeth, phone, toilet, etc.) to pick up microscopic bacteria and fungi.

5. Gently wipe the swab contents onto the surface of the agar plate.

6. Close the lid and turn the plate upside down so that the lid is on the bottom and agar is on the top.

7. Incubate plates at 84-100°F using a portable heater or a desk lamp. Keep a thermometer nearby.

8. Watch stuff grow! Bacterial colonies or fungi should be visible in 1-4 days.

Pour Quality Control But Still Useable This kit is a good basic kit for growing bacteria. My only complaint with this kit is based on the quality of the plate pours. Of the 10 agar plates that arrived in the box, 3 of them had large air bubbles in the agar (i.e., 30% of the plates). Bubbles like that are easily avoidable with proper plate pouring. I would know because I spent a few years working as a bacteriologist and occasionally poured my own agar plates. The plates were still usable even with the bubbles. I guess that I…

A+++ Quality! Exactly what I needed! I needed to do air quality testing on a house I have that’s been sitting vacant. I’m a retired microbiologist, so I didn’t want to pay a lot to some testing service that probably wouldn’t do as good a job as I could anyway. Consistent depth of agar, sufficient for the testing I was doing. During college I briefly worked making agar plates, so I know what’s involved in making quality plates, so I can really appreciate the quality of these! (Note: after the first…

It needs to be known when you order this kit requires to be refrigerated. The kit arrived, but I was not aware it had to be refrigerated. I kept it on my table for a month & when I was ready to put it to use, it was ruined. Information should have been posted on the web, on the invoice or somehow communicated when it was ordered or something. The box had it on there, but it didn’t stand out in any way (black lettering like the rest of the information) to know it was important. However, the company surprisingly & generously offered to reimburse me for my trouble. The…
