They work as advertised, plastic clasp is the weak poiny I hike the hills south (east and west) of the Bay Area in northern california. These are a huge help on the 30+ degree grades you sometimes have to hike up/down on the more difficult trails. Super helpful on the Sunol rec area where a trail might turn into climbing a 60 degree slop with only a few foot holds.Super LightThe plastic clasp to lock the extensions into position is a bit erm, bad. Enjoying using them I have some back and hip problems that have made it difficult for me to feel confident going up and down slopes on our local trail. I took these out for a test walk and they restored my confidence in going up and down those slopes. The next night I took them out to see what a noise in the yard was and forgot about the muddy patch on the slope in front of the house so my feet started to go out from under me…saved by the poles! I was not disappointed in purchasing these poles. Recommend. I was not disappointed at all. This was my first hiking pole purchase after reading seemingly hundreds of reviews for features I thought I desired. Shock absorbers, yes or no? Once I read several reviews discounting the absorbers as gimmickry and often times nothing but a squeaky nuisance, I wanted nothing to do with same. I feel the carbon fiber does dissipate any perceived “shock” to the wrists. The padded wrist straps were very comfortable on my first hike that was over 5 miles long…
