About Gerber: A History of Innovation
Savvy. Moxie. Craftsmanship. Attention to detail. These are just a few of the company traits that have contributed to Gerber’s emergence as a world leader in outdoor gear. Joseph Gerber started Portland, Oregon’s Gerber Advertising back in 1910, and one Christmas, he hired a local knife-maker to craft 25 sets of kitchen cutlery as client gifts. The knives were so popular Mr. Gerber ultimately left his agency to launch Gerber Legendary Blades in 1939.

It makes sense, really. An idea man gets the idea of a lifetime and turns it into a major outdoor brand–one that commands respect among knife lovers and knife makers alike. And now that same high regard is spreading in new directions, in the form of many outstanding products such as tools, personal L.E.D. lighting, and more.

Renaissance Man says:

Great Hatchet Great axe. I keep this in the car along side the original gator. These are great for emergency use or the occasional camping need. This and the original gator are by no means daily workers. They are light and having the saw, and in the original gator a knife, is a great addition.

John L. says:

Great product ill call it gerbars since its parent company was responsible for the design. This product is definitely of Fiskar origin. But I find some differences I’m not totally comfortable with, 1 the handle on the gerber model hatchet is much thinner then that of the Fiskar hatchet I’m not sure it will make difference but for large hands I find it a bit small. The grip is good but I wear gloves when chopping and wouldn’t notice the grippiness. Other then that the sheath seems of decent quality wish for a molle compatible version. The small saw in the handled is well held and…

Tyler Sargent says:

Broken handle I really like the idea and worked great the first few times. But then the last time I used it broke the handle about 3 inches from the head. Looked inside the handle and it broke right at the steel core. The steel core does not go all the way to the head.
