The only hardcover omnibus of the best-selling and award-winning fantasy trilogy, in a Contemporary Classics edition.

Philip Pullman’s trilogy is a masterpiece that transcends genre and appeals to readers of all ages. His heroine, Lyra, is an orphan living in a parallel universe in which science, theology, and magic are entwined. The epic story that takes us through the three novels is not only a spellbinding adventure featuring armored polar bears, magical devices, witches, and daemons, it is also an audacious and profound reimagining of Milton’s Paradise Lost that has already inspired a number of serious books of literary criticism. Like J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis before him, Pullman has invented a richly detailed and marvelously imagined world, complex and thought-provoking enough to enthrall adults as well as younger readers. An utterly entrancing blend of metaphysical speculation and bravura storytelling, His Dark Materials is a monumental and enduring achievement.

The best edition of a great book. His dark materials is a fantastic trilogy that promotes self awareness in youths. Unlike many youth novels, this trilogy has a truly strong willed young woman as a main character that doesn’t get stuck in a love triangle or the trope of having to be consistently saved by her male counterpart. Lyra is a truly enjoyable firebrand of a girl that is both believable and lovable while Will is an average salt of the earth young man that is both reliable and heartwarming. It has been some time since I…

Read this series. Pullman’s trilogy is not to be missed for science fiction and philosophy lovers, in my opinion. It is a coming of age story, in more than just the usual sense. In the alternate England where this story is set, souls exist outside the bodies as animals referred to as “daemons,” and their shape is set at adolescence, when the child becomes an adult. Before that time, the daemon can change into whatever animal form it would like. In this compelling take on the “soul,” the…

5 Reasons To Read His Dark Materials One of the most famous and beloved fantasy book trilogies you can think of. One that has been tried to adapt into a movie, but it failed, as some things (okay, most things!) are probably best left in book form. It’s so epic, I can only compare it to Harry Potter. If you haven’t read it yet, let me see if I can remedy that!★★★★★ Endless number of starsHis Dark Materials is a sweeping epic that tells of a story bigger than you can imagine, but it’s also a story told through the…
