If you want a solid, thick, intimidating knife: buy this Excellent knife. When I first received the knife from Red’s Gear, it was the wrong knife but the right sheath. I think this was Ka-Bar’s or TDI’s fault because it was already in the Ka-Bar packaging. Red’s Gear simply brought it out of storage and shipped it. Anyways, I sent it back and they sent me the right one no problem.

Massive Safety Improvement After owning the original TDI knife I can say this newer Hell Fire TDI is a massive step up. First the sheath comes with a thumb release retention mechanism built in. With the original TDI knife there were issues with losing the knife or worse having it taken from you. With the Hell Fire version the retention sheath securely holds the knife until you release it. Second the Hell Fire has a noticeably larger blade and grip section. I find compared to the original the Hell Fire fits the hand more…

Built Like the Ka-Bar U.S.M.C. Fighting Knife of Old So this is going to be somewhat of a long story. I was first introduced to the original Ka-Bar TDI knife by a PPCT instructor, like the one mentioned in the article that was written in thinblueflorida.com, titled as ” KA-BAR TDI Knife Review: Unsafe for Duty”. While this is a misleading title there are short comings with the original TDI knife and it is not unsafe for duty use. I bought the original TDI before I graduated the academy.
