Did not work well for me I have learned it does not come pre-lubed, so if you get this take it apart and lube the rubber rings and moving parts. I have had this filter for about 4 years now. I have taken it on several back country trips. It worked well twice. The several other times I have always had issues with this pump. It always seemed to build backpressure inside the pump causing it to either slowly trickle water out or made it difficult to pump. I have to break it down and put it back together every trip to pump…

Great for group camping. Amazing in an emergency. I bought this for camping trips with friends since it had a large output and I figured it would be good for multiple people using it. It took some setup time, and I spent an evening rinsing out the carbon-dust from the filter, but this is normal for new filters. It was perfect for a 6 person, 3 day camping excursion, especially since we all use camel-backs and it made filling them a breeze. (You can get more water into them with the pump than just filling from the tap, just don’t overfill, or…

Great, probably, if your unit does not leak catastrophically. I’m a long time Katadyn advocate, having used the HikerPro on expedition in SE Asian rainforests for years. Owing to some damage sustained through long term usage I decided to replace my HikerPro with the Vario for its greater throughput. The unit is solidly built, but on usage proved to be problematic for me.
