A Great Mess Kit – Great Quality – Very Thick – … A Great Mess Kit – Great Quality – Very Thick – But (Caution) When you Buy This Kit There’s an Oily Grease Substance When It’s Shipped To Your House ………..Wash It Out in Hot Water and DAWN it Washes out Very good. And Cooks Very Good.
They’re Great but are covered in machine oil! They’re Great except these Mess Kits have machine oil on them though, I used a strong dishwashing detergent to remove the oil on mine. It took several applications using boiling water as well. MAKE SURE you clean it before use. Other than that it’s a great piece of field gear, not up to German standards but quite serviceable. Gift-wrapped in grease but well worth the cleanup effort The mess kit I received was dated 1956. It was covered with a thick layer of what I’ve seen described by Russian vendors online as “edible oil” but which looks, feels, and smells very much like the cosmoline I’ve cleaned off most of my Mosin rifles. I was glad for it, though, because a bit of boiling water, detergent, and considerable scrubbing made quick work of it, and now it looks like it was made yesterday.
