Can you solve the mystery of the Honesteel enigma? Its a slab of metal, so I guess its well made? All joking aside, I get mixed results with this item. sometimes it really helps other times it completely dulls the blade. I will chalk that up to my inexperience and I can probably improve my technique because when it works …it really works. VERY DISAPPOINTED I was so excited when I punched the name in and it came up looking exactly like what I had, I purchased it without even looking at the reviews. Stupid mistake. I’ve had my original since about 1972 would be my guess. I could put a edge on my knives that would shave the hair on your arm. That was my way of testing the sharpness of the knife. Years of usage has put its share of wear on the steel. I’ve read reviews now where people have talked about cleaning the groves of the steel to get improved…

The five I bought are aweful. Unlike those made in the 1970’s. My dad gave me one of these Old Timer HoneSteels back in the early 1970’s and I am still using it. In fact several family members enjoy using it. Well then these should be great gifts, right? Unfortunately, I did not heed the reviews that spoke very poorly of these modern hones. I read a few good reviews and gambled before ordering several of these Old Timer HS1 Honesteels.
