The features of the Ranger CL now includes additional knurling for easier rotation/grip, a 1 piece mirror with etched sighting line down the center for a precise readout of bearing when sighting. 4X more intense luminosity than watch grade which does not degrade over time.

A good attempt, but poor execution… I really wanted to have a classic Silva Ranger. This isn’t it.
Excellent product – but should have a protective case or pouch Having read many independent compass reviews, I wasn’t surprised this a quality product. There are three Silva Ranger CL models. I ordered this one (High Visibility or Hi-Vis – on Silva site), but I did not receive the Hi-Vis. The only difference in the one I received and the one pictured here is the dial: the Hi-Vis has the florescent dial, whereas the one I received has a black dial. The third…
and it has better features. As to performance I live in Interior Alaska. My previous Silva Compass lasted for 35 years, subjected to floating around in my pack and other unfriendly venues, including being stored in the windshield bag of my snowmachine outside at temperatures down to 60 below. It’s still limping along. I didn’t pay much more for this new Ranger, and it has better features. As to performance, all I know so far is that the declination adjustment works (nice feature), and the needle points to magnetic north, and the dial…
