Very handy tool for those who still prefer hand drafting. Perfect for my needs. I have a Staedtler rotary sharpener designed for these drafting leads so I did not have any problems with the beam scale calibration. I think someone reported a problem, but the only thing I can think of is that he used a sanding board to sharpen the leads, which would leave the point off-center, and will screw-up the calibration.
new “old-style” drafting/engineering tool at a reasonable price I disagree with the reviewer who claims in 2007 that this is a flimsy tool. What arrived in 2010 is what I would have expected as an engineer or a draftsman (I am an engineer). The item is made in Germany, and I find no flaws in the tool itself.
Wonderful quality I have been wanting to purchase this beam compass for some time but was put off by the price. After trying to mark large circles using a pencil on a string or using a yardstick with holes drilled in it, I was continuously disappointed with their imprecision. I am so glad that I finally bought this compass. It is light but extremely sturdy. I am really impressed with its quality, and I’m glad I got the graduated one with measurement markings on it.
