Great shovel for your ditty bag!! I decided to by this shovel after that flimsy little plastic orange trowel I had just wasn’t cutting it when it came to digging poop holes.. The harder soil, plant roots, and smaller size made the plastic orange shovel almost useless. This folds up the size of the palm of your hand. It’s made of metal, and has small teeth on one side of the spade to help cut through small roots, although it’s definitely not a “saw”. It does have a little tiny compass on the handle which is accurate…
Shovel A decent little shovel, but I wouldn’t call it heavy duty. If you are in pure soil, it’s fine, but if there are chunks of rock, etc., the shovel could bend and come loose and have to be constantly re-tightened. Happened to me on a backpacking trip.
Impressive — until you USE it. Bent and jammed during FIRST use. I was impressed when I unboxed this item, held it in my hands, and tried its various configurations. I was excited to try it out. Well, during its FIRST use on a camping trip this past weekend, the shovel/spade bent the very FIRST time I dug into the (not very hard) ground to dig a cat hole.
