Not a true exact reproduction. The “East” compass point has “O” marking, I suppose for German language “Osten”. The Smithsonian photos online of the original do not show “O” for east, but the English “E”. Not a true exact reproduction.
Beautiful piece! I bought this as a gift for my parents. It is a beautiful piece! My only concern is with the hinges, they seem like they might pose a problem in the future, but so far they’ve been fine. That’s the only reason I don’t give it 5 stars. I gave it to my parents and they loved it.
