Our Fire Starters are made from sawdust and paraffin and are very effective for quickly and easily lighting lump charcoal without imparting a chemical taste. A box contains 24 cubes. The Electric Starter, if you prefer that method of lighting, will light the charcoal in about eight minutes.Directions:~Fill the fire box with lump charcoal to at least 1 inch above the air holes.~With the lid open, slide the draft door completely open.~Nestle 1 or 2 Big Green Egg Starters into the charcoal and light. After approximately 10 mins, or whenever several coals are burning, close the lid.~When the temperature gauge reaches the desired cooking temperature, reduce the airflow by adjusting the dual function metal top and draft door.** Do not hold Fire Starter in hand to light. Does not include box.

The Best Charcoal Starter These are the best charcoal starters for our awesome Big Green Egg. They do not throw off any fumes and they are all natural. I sometimes use a Mapp torch because it’s a little faster but these are less of a hassle. I usually use one to light the egg and cut it in half with scissors and light the lump in two spots. I then light the lump in 4 places which gets…

Nope – they work, but at the price per cube it gets expensive. Nope – they work, but at the price per cube it gets expensive. And they don’t work that great. Using 1 will EVENTUALLY get my large BGE coals going, but 2 or 3 are better and that is like $2.10 per fire at $.70 each ($16.89 for 24 count). Gonna settle on a different way to start my coals.
