Extremely compact and powerful, the fully redesigned Black Diamond Ion headlamp packs 100 lumens of power into a tiny package for just-in-case lighting and fast missions. With a push button housing that lets you easily switch from full power to dimmed, strobe or red night vision, the Ion has the functionality of a bigger light, with none of the extra weight.

Product Features

  • Modern housing runs on two AAA lithium standard alkaline batteries
  • One DoublePower LED emits up to 100 lumens on max setting
  • Settings include full strength in proximity and distance modes, dimming, strobe, red night vision and lock mode
  • IPX8: Waterproof-Tested to operate up to 1.1 meters underwater for 30 minutes. If submerged, water may enter the battery compartment and it will still operate, and it should be dried out completely afterwards.

Light weight, nice floody beam, variable brightness from 4 hours to multiple days. This review is for the newer Black Diamond Ion, 100 lumens with push button control. I really like this light. I started this Fall with the Black Diamond Storm and Spot headlamps. They are nice headlamps but the flood setting doesn’t throw very far and the beam setting is really brighter than I need in most circumstances, and they have complicated controls. It is much easier to open now and does not come open accidentally and it doesn’t feel like you are going to break it. If you are using lightweight gloves, it works ok. If you are using heavyweight gloves, I imagine it could be a problem. But, almost anything that requires dexterity would be…

Reasonable price but turning it on/off is very finicky. The button free touch sensor to turn the unit on and off and adjust brightness is a nice concept but it is very finicky. It doesn’t matter if your fingers are clean, dirty, hot, cold, or wet, this unit usually takes about 5 tries to get it to respond the way you are intending. Once you get it turned on it is actually very bright for it’s size with good battery life. According to the manual it is water resistant. I have worn it for brief periods in the rain with no issues but the battery door…
