The Special Forces Shovel is modeled after the original Soviet Spetsnaz shovel. The Spetsnaz were the Soviet army’s most elite unit, renowned for their deadly efficiency. Trained to travel light, the Spetsnaz packed only the bare essentials. This included a unique shovel which had a broad flat blade and 3 sharp versatile edges. Cold Steel’s shovel follows the Soviet design as faithfully as possible with newer improvements in the steel (twice as thick as the original) and heat treatment.

Awesome shovel/ hatchet Pretty awesome shovel/ hatchet. It didn’t come with the sheath however. Make sure you are aware of wether or not it comes with the sheath. The edges of the shovel are actually really sharp. This splits wood pretty good. The length was a little longer than anticipated. Overall a really cool product.

Would make any Spetsnaz Operative Proud What is the best weapon? It is something that looks innocent and can be carried where ever you go. Well, as far as I know, there are no assault shovel laws and at most people may look at you funny carrying this. The construction is very solid. As a melee weapon, this is quite effective as the edges make cutting an assailant very easy. Apparently they can use the back as a baton in Russia so even if you don’t want to inflict cutting wounds, you can also inflict blunt force trauma. It is a fun…

Good, solid shovel – see for composite handle Well, I am blown away. I like things that have multiple uses. Check. I also like things that either don’t break at all or are easy to fix, and I like the sound of this shovel on both of those a lot more than a folding e-tool.
