Great ferro rod that really works! Just received my Ferro rod with survival whistle and ferro rod striker. I used it immediately to start a fire in the fireplace. I placed cedar shavings in a pile on top of a small piece of oak bark. Then used the striker to scrape the black coating off and get to the ferrocerium. It threw some really nice sparks that started an ember on a piece of charwood I made a month ago. Placed the charwood inside the cedar shavings and blew the ember into a flame. Added twigs from the yard to the flames…

Dimples ferro rod kit I like this striker pretty well. There are a lot of heavy ferro rods on the Internet but this one is Prime qualified and the price is right. It is a “soft” ferro rod but as thick as it is soft isn’t all that bad…it allows you to throw heavy sparks that if struck at chest level will burn all the way to the ground. I own many firesteels and flint and carbon steel setups, this one is worth buying. It’s heavy if your plans are for backpacking

When I came across this set with the multi purpose striker tool, whistle, paracord lanyard, and LARGE ferro rod, I was sold. While it is larger than some might want in their packs, it does fold together nicely.
