Nice design but the blade is thin Overall I like this but I am concerned about how well it will hold up. The design gives this the feel of an oversized meat cleaver, which works well. The issues are that the blade seems thin relative to size and part the handle is hollow. The blade is moderately sharp. This does come with a sheath that secures with velco and snap but it is practically useless because it’s extremely difficult to get the snap closed – the sheath is really too small.

chinese production fiskars hatchet did not come sharp. with enough force it might have cut balsa wood. tho once i got it sharpened it cut just fine. need to give it a good seasons worth of use to see if it holds up. just to be clear, this is the Chinese production model, not the ones made in finland. it did cut thru green saplings quite easily, once sharp, and cut them up into kindling. have not had a chance to use vine hook. that was not sharp either. felt pretty good in the hand.

Good light hatchet This is what I’d call a ‘light’ hatchet, in that the blade is thinner, and the handle is lighter than most hatchets of comparable size. It cuts more like a knife using sharpness to get through the branch, than weight to chop like most hatchets. Because of this, sharpness is very important to performance. It came well sharpened, but I haven’t used it enough yet to see how well it will hold its edge. The handle is hollow plastic or fiberglass, again quite light. Cutting performance is good,…
