Light enough to actually use I sold my inReach Explorer and bought the Mini and I’m glad I did.The Explorer works great but it is just too dang big and heavy to take along backpacking or even for a day hike. The Mini is quite small and quite light. I’ve been wearing it around my neck today and I hardly notice it. Amazing functionality in such a small and light package and excellent battery performance so far. I just upgraded from my original InReach and was disappointed that it cost 20$ to switch devices. Their braindead website should support switching devices without contacting support or cancelling your service and starting up another plan. Tiny and sturdy First. This device (and all inReach actually) will not work without a subscription. The subscription is what allows it to connect to the Iridium satellite network. In other words, without a subscription is just a regular GPS (without maps) and a digital compass.
