Knives intended for multi-function versatility need to be made with the dynamics of Kershaw’s FreeFall, a folding, military grade pocket knife trustworthy enough for personal defense or protection during lifesaving emergencies and sharp and sturdy enough to use when hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, climbing or 4-wheeling. FreeFall boasts a tanto tip flat-ground for additional strength and a hollow-ground, slightly curved belly able to cut paper, roots, packing boxes, hides, straps, ropes, rubber hoses, feathering sticks for tinder and nearly anything else encountered during work, play and recreation. It is a stay-sharp, won’t-break blade tumbled with ceramic stones for a stonewash finish that hides scratches and fingerprints and won’t rust or corrode. Heavy jimping on the blade’s back and a glass-filled nylon handle embossed with K-texture grip further contribute to FreeFall’s amazing strength, stiffness, stability and utility, making this folder a mighty blade with a powerful hold.

Great overall design, nice blade but… Really wanted to like it. Blade design was cool (loved the modified tanto), auto assist was great (opened with authority), but blade was misaligned and scraping liner on one side (tried to correct but made blade too tight). Also, pocket clip was loose and unable to tighten due to faulty/stripped screw hole. I know price point was low but kershaw shouldn’t bother manufacturing junk or perhaps they need to better manage their quality control process. Thx

better options out there I’ve owned several Kershaw knives in the past and have loved them. This one, not the case. First the pros: nice size, great sharpness. Cons: girth of the metal is way thicker than in other kershaw blades, the thumb fast open is a bit tight (though I can correct this), but the MAJOR concern is the lock release to put the knife away. It does not stand out at all from the handle of the blade and makes it very difficult to close the knife down.

Kershaw’s opening system is great. Yes Fast and smooth action on the flipper open. Kershaw’s opening system is great. Yes, there are no thumb studs, but with the flipper, I don’t use them. Came sharp and retains the edge fairly well for the steel that is used. Re-sharpens easily to good edge. The clip can easily be reversed to make it left/right carry. The clip is a deep clip. When clipped in place, the only thing visible is the clip.
