Cute, but small and difficult to use. Worthless whistle. I bought this for my daughter to use and she cannot even get a spark out of it. Using the attached striker, I can get sparks enough to light dryer lint, but it takes a LOT of strength and time, and requires the striker be held just so. The sparks it does generate are not the typical fireworks shower that most ferro rods throw, but rather as others have noted, it just looks like the sparks from a Bic lighter. As to the whistle, I suppose if you were mute the whistle might make sound…

Decent for a beginner. This little guy is pretty cool. Bought it for my grand daughter for an upcoming cross country motorcycle trip. I really like the feel of the grips. They are very comfy and secure. The FireSteel is ok, puts out a decent amount of sparks, but could be better. Nice bright color to keep from losing it.
