The eXplorist 610 packs the most accurate maps into the palm of your hand. The World Edition map allows for 2D or 3D viewing angles. It includes a complete road network in United States, Canada, Western Europe, and Australia and major roads throughout the rest of the world and provides cartographic orientation in almost any location. This unique, preloaded map also includes water features, urban and rural land use, and a realistic shaded relief background. The eXplorist 610 also includes Summit Series, a highly detailed topographic map based on 1:24,000 scale source maps. The map includes contour lines, land use areas, trails, waterways, and points of interest. Locate the nearest trailhead. Search for the nearest bike shops, fuel stations, or potable water source. Navigate safely in 3D perspective view while knowing the boundaries between private and public lands.

The best of both worlds, the eXplorist 610 combines the user friendliness of a touch screen with the reliability of two customizable hard buttons. Program the hard buttons to your two favorite or most used functions. Powered by two AA batteries, the eXplorist 610 will last up to 15 hours under normal conditions. To help conserve power, use the suspend mode to turn off the device but maintain GPS tracking. You can also adjust power management settings to your preference.

Works okay after firmware update The firmware that came with it did not work as advertised, it did not keep tracking when it went to sleep. I upgraded the firmware to the latest from the Magellan site and it now works as advertised.

Can Magellan create a useable operator’s manual? Bought it. Like it. Does everything it says it will do. Trying to figure out how to do that is another question. Fortunately, I am somewhat familiar with GPS systems and how they operate. But trying to decifer the user’s manual is like trying to run through hell in a gasoline sports jacket. I sympathize with first time gps users. How do you create a route? No instructions. How do you reset odometer. Trial and error. It wouldn’t be bad if the system were intuitive like an IPhone, but most of it…

Poor customer service Poor software READ THIS BEFORE BUYING THIS UNIT. I got this for a trip we are going on, after looking for hours on the internet comparing different unit it was down to this unit or the Garmin Oregon 650T. I ordered this unit upon arrival it turned on ok but could not read the screen in the sun. I got it home and fooled around with it and found it to be Very slow and sluggish responding. I tried to update the unit over and over again in hopes this would solve the problem but NO. I could never update. It kept saying the update was not for my…
