INSTRUCTIONS
1. Using the flat edge of the striker, shave the block to create a small pile of magnesium alloy.
2. Prepare your tinder next to the magnesium alloy pile.
3. Hold the flat edge of the striker against the top of the flint at a 45° angle. Slide firmly down the flint to create sparks. Allow sparks to fall onto magnesium alloy pile.
4. Use magnesium alloy to ignite tinder. Place burning tinder into fire. Don’t suffocate the fire – build fire slowly using small pieces of wood.
* Note: Firestick is covered in protective oil. Wipe off oil before use.

A pretty nice version of the classic fire starter kit It’s a magnesium fire starter kit. In case you don’t know: You scrape magnesium flakes off the block into a small heap, then strike the flint side for sparks that ignite these flakes. That’s all this does; it’s up to you to find (dry) tinder and then build a fire from it.
Good quality, long lasting and easy to use firestarters!!! These fire starters work really good and are handy. I bought this 3 pack, and place one in my truck and another in my wife’s jeep. The 3rd one I placed in my hunting pack. Upon getting these fire starters, I scraped off the black coating on the imbedded spark rods to better generate sparks. I practiced starting small fires in my back yard on paper plates. The magnesium was easy to scrape off the main bars and ignited easily. Very impressive Received the fire starters this morning and immediately unpacked them to take them for a test drive. All three bars are packed in individual resealable cellophane packets. I only took out one bar for testing. The bars have a protectant oil on them you will need to wipe off before using, easily done with a paper towel. There are three strikers/shavers and three sets of chains for each bar and striker.
