Cheap Velcro Really liked this shoe at first. My daughter loved them, they looked good, and seemed to hold up well. After 4 months of wearing them to school the velcro wore out on the strap of both shoes. Completely fell apart and came off of the straps. Was hoping for more durability from a Merrell product. Currently trying to get Merrell to replace under warranty. Will update if they stand by their product.
