Not as nice as Estwing, but better than the cheapies with tubular steel handles It’s hard to tell from looking at the pic, but this hatchet’s head and shaft are all one piece of steel. It’s just that the back part of the head and the shaft are painted black. So plan on that scraping off over time.The cover is poorly-designed, it falls off easily, which is a safety hazard, since one is supposed to be able to carry the hatchet on one’s belt by this. Good axe for small hands but the cover is useless. This could be a good axe but for me the handle is too thin and doesn’t have alot of grip to it. The axe itself is smaller than I expected. Also, the thin handle makes it hard to hold if you have bigger hands. I’m afraid it might go flying if I get sweat on my hands or lose concentration while swinging. Overall, it cuts well. SHAVING SHARP OUTTA THE BOX!!!! OK. For all the whiners out there saying its “smaller” than they expected. Its actually BIGGER than stated in the description. 12″ total length, 3 1/2″ wide blade. The sheath is adequate, with a blade guard. Its a great weight for light to medium chopping. The handle is comfortable but thin. I have no trouble gripping it at all. Even better with gloves on. Its a perfect addition to my gear, giving my machete a break from chopping kindling, and giving me a hammer for my tent…
