Directions for fire starter use:
1. Gather kindling and tinder for your fire.
2. Shave magnesium from your fire starter rod onto the pile of tinder with serrated edge of striker.
3. Strike down on rod with striker to create spark and ignite tinder.
4. Feed flame with smaller sticks without smothering flame.

Great product for the price and small enough to carry … Great product for the price and small enough to carry around in your pants pocket or sticking in a small pocket of a backpack.
Perfect size for my knife sheath. Nice Firestarter! I got it to keep in my sheath. I don’t use the included scraper, but it DOES work. You do get a better “shower” with the back of a knife blade though.
Does the Job This item is pretty good. The string is not real parachute cord but that is not a big issue. The material seems harder that some of the swiss-made versions. The softer materials allow for a bigger spark. You can get the same size spark but you have to work a little harder for it. The whistle is loud. I don’t have a decibel measurement to share but it will do the job of drawing attention / signalling. The compass is adequate and moves freely (as it should).My only constructive criticism is…
