Primacare instant cold pack is a convenient direct replacement for crushed ice. It contains ammonium nitrate and water. You must squeeze it to activate it and shake packet to mix contents. This product does not need to be refrigerated and is for one time use. PrimaCare’s cols pack comes with a non-woven cover, so that there is no direct contact of cold pack to the skin.

Hit or miss cooling power, filled with air making efficient cooling of areas difficult, at times. So far, after using 3, these seem to be rather hit-n-miss on whether they will be cold enough to even need the thin cover for protection. The coldest pack, so far, was around 50F, which is ‘cold’. Another issue that makes icing a particular part of your body is that these packs are filled with a great deal of air, which means that even when wrapped to say, your ankle, the liquid will slosh around and won’t efficiently cool areas you may want. Pretty darn awesome If you are in bad enough shape that you need cold packs on a regular basis, you know that a cold pack is really wet within minutes of you smashing the bag. I sometimes use three or four a day–these have a nice non-woven COVER that slides on. I discovered that they can be washed in the machine and re-used!! Double awesome! Much nicer than a non-slip-covered cold pack. These are great. Also the size is a bit larger than most, and so more useful.

GREAT for icing when you’re away from home! I was recovering from surgery when I had to make an out-of-town trip. My routine included icing several times a day, but I knew that I would not have access to a freezer–so I ordered these instant ice packs.
