Our 284 Premium Model Woodman’s Pal did not and still does not go unnoticed by the U.S. Military. This model was standard issued from the early part of World War II through Desert Storm. G.I’s and the U.S. Army Signal Corp relied heavily on the Woodman’s Pal for land clearing operations. At the time of the Vietnam War, the Woodman’s Pal was designated the “Survival Tool, Type IV” and was issued in air crew survival kits. Gripped as either an axe or a machete, the Woodman’s Pal can clear trails and brush and perform the tasks of many tools such as machetes, axes, hatchets, trimming saws, pruning scissors, knives, bow saws and sometimes even chain saws. With one Woodman’s Pal, you can trim bushes and small trees, prune, clear or blaze trails, clear brush from lines, remove unwanted growth and build shelters or duck blinds. As All-American as you can get, Woodman’s Pal tools are formed from the highest-grade American steel, melded with the best American ash wood. Enthusiastic Pennsylvania craftsmen do all manufacturing of the Woodman’s Pal. Great tool for working with trees or cutting brush on … Great tool for working with trees or cutting brush on the trail. The Woodman’s Pal arrived timely as described and I “LOVE” this tool. I am searching for a reason to purchase it’s mate with the longer oak handle. Be careful while using this tool as it does require skills to prevent injury.

Otherwise a very fun and effective mix between a machete and small axe The bottom of the handle kind of pops off the little standoff that holds it in place sometimes, makes me wonder if it’ll bend out of place eventually. Otherwise a very fun and effective mix between a machete and small axe. Quite sharp out of the box. The sheath is non reversible due to the special design (lefties will have to wear on right side of pants). The leather handle helps keep my bare hands warmer in the winter.

Daniel Sih says:

Compact cutting in the woods Recently, I used the Woodman’s Pal to trim trees in the backyard as a prelude to cutting clearings in the Wisconsin forests where I hunt turkeys in the spring. It does a great job and is not as cumbersome as the machete I used two years ago. The sheath or scabbard is beautifully oiled but mine came with a small gouge in it; this blemish doesn’t affect the performance of the tool but is a sad commentary on automated stocking of inventory.
