Decent for the price Descent compass but sometimes the needle gets stuck so some light taps while holding it parallel to the ground will eventually get it facing North. The cover does not clip shut or anything, it is just a hinge. I was expecting it to be like a pocket watch with a release mechanism at the top. However, it was a cheap compass after all so I wasn’t expecting it to be heavy duty or anything.
Great Learning tool for the generational I bought them for my nieces and nephew. I believe that we have become so dependent on computers, smart phones and GPS that our younger generations wouldn’t have the skills to survive if stuck in a blizzard or lost in the woods. This compass is a great skill to learn and it’s fits in their palms without trouble and they fit well in adult palms too. and with the glow in the dark feature they love using it on their camping trips.
Just what I need! The lid is a little loose (not the hinge–it just opens really easily), but I #1–dropped the compass on a wood floor as soon as I removed it from its shipping envelope, and #2–I am going to carefully press the lid a bit tighter with a small needle-nose pliers. This compass is perfect for placing in a car or purse in case you get confused and and are in an area where you can’t see the mountains to the west of your home, or you just get lost.
