Excellent survival item! 1 “cake” was said to last 30 minutes but I only used 1/4 of it to heat 20 oz of water and it lasted at least 10 minutes and boiled my water long before that. Although this is touted as tinder or fire starter I think this can be used on it’s own in places you have no natural fuel to cook food or boil water.
Great starter Starters work very well. They burn plenty long enough to get charcoal started, are very easy to start, and burn away almost completely. I also like the duraflame starter sticks, but find they can be difficult to get/keep going. I like that there are many individually wrapped “pucks”, but would find it great if there was a smaller size. One of these is larger than necessary to start a fire, and I often break them in half or quarters. If there was a variation with a wax/paper wrapper…
Great for my woodburner, but be careful not to make a mess. I’ve been using these for about a month, and can finally write a favorable review. I use them to start my fires in my wood burner, as opposed to my old method of preparing kindling, and wadding a couple pieces of newspaper. This is much easier, they burn about 10-15 minutes, enough to get my fire going again in the stove, without having to prepare kindling. Couple of items to be aware of, they stick together so plan to give it a bit of umph to separate the disks. They’re sealed in plastic, so…
