This is an outstanding compass and I am quite pleased with it While I have not yet used this specific item in the fired yet, I am quit familiar with Silva products. This is an outstanding compass and I am quite pleased with it. It’s my intention to attach this to a lanyard and keep it snugly tied to my shirt and tucked in my pocket for quick reference. My only complaint is that “I” did not get the Silva that had the magnifying glass incorporated in the base. I’ll buy another soon. This is an excellent compass.

Strange – Instructions are for the Silva Explorer 203 I just received this compass a couple days ago; purchased from Beach Cities Scuba Center. The item pictured is the one I received, it was in “bulk packaging” (I guess it was, it was just like what you would see in a store); however, when I sat down to read the instructions, the first item (field bearing) said “hold the compass level and point the Direction of Travel Arrow at the landmark.” Being an experienced compass reader, I thought, “hmmm, what’s the direction of…

Lightweight and easy to read! This was recommended to me by an instructor for an orienteering class I took. After the classroom portion, we headed to the mountains and got to use it.
