but the steel is great, the wood handle grain is super I read previous reviews so I wasn’t surprised. The head angle is not aligned with the handle it’s off by abit, but the steel is great, the wood handle grain is super. I love that’s it’s made in the USA, the leather sheath is from India but is of very good quality. The edge had to be sharpened, which clued me to the quality of the steel. Hatchet fits like an arm extension, it is a working tool to go in my kayak.
Could have done a better handle install I like it and I’m keeping it but the handle was not installed well. Handle is in-line with the head, but it is in-line with one side if that makes sense. So that is to say… Looking directly at the blade straight on, you can clearly see that the handle is off-set to one side of the head. Handle grain is good. I haven’t tested it but have sharpened it. Nice hatchet for your rucksack I haven’t had a chance to put this hatchet to work, yet; I purchased it as a lighter-weight alternative to my Hultafors Hunting Axe. This tool is effectively a better-made, grownup version of a “Boy Scout” camp hatchet.
