Caring for Your Folding Knife

Keeping your knife clean, dry, oiled and sharp are the primary defenses against corrosion, wear, and potential injury. Be sure to clean the blade and handle after each use–however, do not soak your knife in water. A mild solution of soap and water should remove any dirt and debris that may have accumulated during use (avoid harsh detergents such as laundry or dish soap, and chlorine products). To remove any debris from inside the handle you can use a toothpick for any visible lint or dirt, or a Q-Tip for smaller amounts of dirt and debris.

After cleaning or after exposure to moisture be sure to completely dry your knife blade and handle, taking special care with any sensitive handle materials. Use a soft cotton cloth or chamois and a small amount of moisture-displacing oil (such as WD-40 or 3-in-1), on the blade only, to prevent water spots and oxidation from forming.

Fingerprints and weather are the primary causes of rusting or corrosion on a knife blade. To keep your knife looking its best, SOG recommends that you give your blade a light coat of oil after each cleaning, and prior to long-term storage. Be sure to also apply a Paraffin-based oil to the pivot point, which will not only keep the action of your blade smooth but will repel dirt and debris which could impede the blade’s action.

Nice Knife I actually waited months for this knife to come out. For the price, I really like this knife. Has all the features I want in a high quality package at an affordable price. the extra cutter blades in the handle are a nice touch. not the best steel in the world but it holds up well. My second SOG. Have the trident too, but realized its technically too long for legal pocket carry(3.5″<). The Escape is a little heavy especially compared to my trident, but I find that to be advantageous…

Joe Thomas says:

Patients don’t like that. Carry this as a paramedic student in class and at my clinicals. Everyone sees the “SOG” on the pocket clip and people always ask to see what kind I have. All are impressed about the replaceable strap cutter blades housed in the handle. Sharp as every SOG knife I’ve owned. Don’t use it to cut clothes off patients because I have shears for that. Patients don’t like that.

Zander says:

Incredibly sharp and good quality, which is to be expected from SOG Incredibly sharp and good quality, which is to be expected from SOG. I’ve had it for about a month now, but haven’t tried all the features yet. The glass breaker tip is really freaking pointy, though. When holding it at first, it seems hefty, but after opening it and gripping it as one would to use it, it feels lightweight, balanced, and still solid. It’s a little stiff to open, but that’s not really an issue. My hands are a bit on the larger side, and the grip accommodates my hand well,…
