Good quality, comfortable and plenty large I bought the X-large Base Camp mattress for my camping hammock. Some sort of insulation is needed for hammocking on all but the warmest nights. The regular sized Thermarests and other pads tended to slip out from under me in the middle of the night. They also don’t don’t reach the shoulders, which can be a cold spot in a hammock, even in a good sleeping bag. This mattress was perfect. The classic BaseCamp might still be the best cap-camping pad available. I use this while car camping, since it is obviously very heavy for a backpacking sleeping pad (I use a vintage Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest for that). Good pad for cold weather, small enough to backpack with. I was using a 20″ wide military pad that I got from the local Army-Navy store for $10 and I always thought sleeping pads like this one were over-priced. However, I slept on this one last night and I’m glad I spent the money. It’s not as good as a regular mattress, but the padding helps, and there is a lot of thermal advantage (the low last night was 6F and I didn’t feel any cold from the ground).
