Introducing the Überleben Zünden Traditional Firesteel. The Überleben Zünden isn’t your typical fire starter. It’s premium. Because nothing feels better than 100% natural wood. And you already know that. You may choose to customize the hardwood handle (stain, carving, burning, etc.)… and that’s cool — but you’ll more than likely just earn a seasoned finish, with the oil from your bare hands. At nearly 5″ long, a thick 5/16″ chunk of ferrocerium will ignite a 5,500º F shower of sparks at any altitude, in any weather condition — rain, shine, snow, or fallout. Includes ferro rod with wooden handle, black 550 paracord lanyard, and 6-funtion multi-tool scraper (see photo). Bright spark also works well as emergency signal. For best results, you’ll need to scrape the protective coating off first. Überleben (German) means to survive, or outlast. The Überleben Zünden should help you do just that. Survive, and outlast.

Best I’ve Ever Bought I’ve purchased numerous fire steels over the years, but not until this one did I have one that worked very well. With the others I could only throw sparks, but with this one I can place the rod directly on the tinder and scratch back and forth a couple of times and generate a nice shower of sparks directly on the tinder for a quick light. I am very pleased and recommend this fire steel! The wooden handle and neck cord are a nice plus!
Perfect for outdoorsmen. I found this ferro rod on an Amazon search and I must say it is my favorite among a large field of generic and brand name competitors alike. The wood handle looks handsome with a good grip and the slightly larger rod make it easier to throw big sparks. The larger diameter rod fits perfectly in the Benchmade 162 sheath, and I was able to put the small measuring piece on a shock cord so I can keep them together.I am going to buy the XL rod for my emergency kit. Well worth the money.
Works like a charm! Great product! Gives off a mighty spark that is super hot! I was able to ignite wood chips with it this afternoon. They wood handle on it is great. Feels really good in the hand allows a great grip for getting a ton off friction across the rod.
