It’s a low budget radio I purchased this unit 3 months ago for my 14′ skiff. I paired it with a cobra 5′ Fiberglas antenna.LIKES-I can receive transmissions from 50 or so miles away. San Diego to Catalina.-speaker is plenty loud.-worksDISLIKE-automatically tries sending out distress signal on channel 16 after a few minutes of being on, unless I hit clear button when it starts beeping. My GPS doesn’t support DSC. So maybe that’s why the radio does this.-Recess mounting…
Went to West Marine and purchase same radio re-branded with West Marine name and it works great. Maybe just got a Friday built radio Lol Installed it but never radio checked until a few months later, would only transmit on low power setting but was too late to return? uniden customer care sucks bought radio was delivered in timely fashion, installed in boat and first time i used it the button on back of microphone that clips in to holder on dash broke off. Very frustrated at this time because it seems that uniden has no customer service.
