An innovative, patented flint-based fire starter that can be operated with one hand, the UST Sparkie generates an intense amount of sparks with minimal effort, even in adverse weather conditions. Designed for precision, the Sparkie can directionally target its sparks, and it can generate sparks three times hotter than a normal match.

The Sparkie’s ultra-lightweight, durable plastic stands up to rugged use, and the flint rod collapses into the Sparkie plastic case for compact storage. The built-in carbide striker and spring loaded flint based bar will last over 100 strikes. Measuring 2.3 x 1.25 x 0.6 inches and weighing 0.8 ounces, it’s backed by a manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.

UST Brands has been manufacturing camping, survival, personal safety, and emergency preparedness equipment for over 80 years, including innovative LED lights, all-weather fire starters, premium outdoor cutting tools, camp kitchen products, first aid kits, unbreakable signal mirrors, and more.

Lots o’ sparks Was able to start a fire on the third stroke. I used toilet paper as tinder to test it. Be sure to hold it at the angle as directed and to put the foot on surface. Also you don’t need to push it that fast. Was surprised at how much sparks it threw off. With a little work you can rotate the rod with your fingers to get more striking surface. I bought another one because the package says it’s only good for a 100 strikes. I’m using this one to get familiar with it. If it is pushed at a wrong angle…

I have tried it both ways, holding it my hand like a lighter and pressing down the bar with my thumb and holding the handle in my hand with the rod on the ground. Both ways worked equally well. I easily lit many different types of dry tinder with…
